WGMM Calls for Action on CO2-Neutral Fuels in Heavy-Duty Transport

The Working Group on Monitoring Methodologies (WGMM), of which Liquid Gas Europe is an active member, has published a new report outlining a clear path for recognizing CO2-neutral fuels in heavy-duty vehicles. Despite Regulation (EU) 2024/1610 having entered into force nearly a year ago, the European Commission has yet to assess a methodology for registering vehicles that run exclusively on CO2-neutral fuels, as mandated by the Regulation. In response, the WGMM report provides a working definition, evaluates 11 potential methodologies, and offers a practical framework to guide future progress. With the industry ready to engage, the Commission now has an opportunity to take action and incorporate CO2-neutral fuels into the regulatory framework.
