Dimeta and Enerkem Collaborate on Large Scale Waste-to-DME Projects in Europe and the USA
Dimeta, a joint venture between two major off-grid energy suppliers and Enerkem, the pioneering company in commercial-scale bio-methanol production from mixed waste, have announced the launching of feasibility studies for two large-scale projects. These projects aim to convert waste into renewable and recycled carbon dimethyl ether (DME). One project will be situated in Northwest Europe, and the other in the Gulf Coast of the United States. Together, they are projected to produce approximately 165,000 tonnes of renewable and recycled carbon DME annually from mixed residual waste. The combined impact of the DME produced by both projects would be equivalent to a significant reduction in the carbon footprint of over one million LPG-heated homes.
