Liquid Gas Europe joins industry partners in call for technology-neutral CO₂ standards
Liquid Gas Europe, together with 15 other organisations in the Network for Sustainable Mobility, has signed a Joint Statement responding to the European Commission’s Call for Evidence on the revision of CO₂ emission standards for new cars and vans.
The statement underlines that the upcoming revision represents a critical opportunity to reassess Europe’s decarbonisation pathway for road transport and to ensure that all sustainable, GHG-reducing solutions — including renewable and low-carbon fuels — are fairly recognised within EU legislation.
Signatories call for a technology-neutral and coherent framework across EU law, including:
- A technology-neutral definition of CO₂-neutral fuels aligned with the Renewable Energy Directive;
- The introduction of a Carbon Correction Factor to account for renewable fuels’ growing market share;
- The creation of a dedicated vehicle category powered by CO₂-neutral fuels.
By adopting a holistic, inclusive approach, the Network for Sustainable Mobility stresses that Europe can accelerate its transition to climate-neutral mobility while preserving affordability, competitiveness, and innovation across the transport ecosystem.
